Modi Telstra launched this service

Modi Telstra launched its first mobile service in India. At the time, the company named the service Mobile Net. Nokia's handsets were used to bring the service to the masses. After Modi Telstra, Spill Telecom also started this service.


The first call was made from Kolkata to Delhi

The first mobile call in the country was made on July 31, 1995. Former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu launched the mobile net service 25 years ago. He made the first call from Kolkata to Union Communications Minister Sukhram in Delhi. The Nokia handset (2110) was used to make this call.

Also had to pay for incoming calls

Incoming calls were also charged with outgoing 25 years ago. The customer had to pay Rs 16 per minute for outgoing calls and Rs 8 per minute for incoming calls. At that time, one had to pay Rs 4,900 to buy a mobile phone. In the 5 years since the service started, only 1 million customers have been created.


Incoming calls became free in 2003

The CPP (Calling Party Page) principle was applied in 2003. That means mobile incoming calls were made free. At the same time, the charge for incoming calls on landlines was reduced to Rs 1.20 per minute. This led to an increase in the number of customers.

3G entered in 2008 and 4G in 2012

TRAI was established in 1997

More than 50 crore smartphone users in India
