China's Beidou is fully working to challenge the US GPS

China said on Friday that its fully functioning navigation satellite Beidou system is ready to provide global services. It has joined an elite group providing space-based systems including GPS from the US, GLONASS of Russia and Galileo of the European Union. Experts told Chinese state media that the BeiDou-3 was completed because core technologies could not be bought or begged from other countries.

It is being told that more than 100 countries are already using the Beidu system as part of Pakistan and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Official media reported on Friday that more than three lakh scientists, engineers and technicians from more than 400 domestic institutions, universities and enterprises have developed this navigation system together. Official media reported the system being operationalized on Friday at a ceremony organized by President Xi Jinping in the Great Hall of People.

The Communist Party of China (CPC) government in February 1994 approved the research and development of a space-based navigation and positioning system aimed toward reducing the country's heavy reliance on foreign networks (GPS of America).
